Who You Gonna Call?

Not receiving a dial tone with your VoiceWrite® Telephone Interface (VTI)? It is not uncommon for us to get phone calls from our customers regarding Lanier's VTI, which due to its protection fuse, can sometimes leave you without a dial tone. Customers sometimes are unsure whether to call the phone company or us to report the trouble.

The quickest way to find the source of the fault is to:

  • Unplug the line cord from the plug marked "Telco" in the rear of the interface.
  • Plug this cord in to a standard telephone set and check for dial tone. If there is no dial tone, contact the phone company.
  • If a dial tone is heard, plug the line cord back into the Telco plug.
  • Reset power to the unit (unplug black power supply marked "Lanier" and plug back in).
  • Turn on the device after waiting 10 seconds. If dial tone still is not heard, call us.

The most likely cause is failure of a phone line fuse that is used to protect your equipment from surges that enter through the phone line. It is strongly recommended that you disconnect your equipment from the phone line during an electrical storm. Following this guideline will help ensure uninterrupted service and protect the investment that you have made in your Lanier equipment.
